ANTONIA GUERRERO, SUEÑO DE LIBERTAD de Francisco Alarcón Pérez

35 – ANTONIA GUERRERO, SUEÑO DE LIBERTAD de Francisco Alarcón Pérez. C/Valencia.

Dreams of freedom (Mª Jesús Infante Aragón- 4º A)

The mural is a tribute to gender equality and was inaugurated in November 2016.

It commemorates the 20th anniversary of the Antonia Guerrero educative foundation.  it was painted by the local artist, Francisco Alarcon who has contributed with other murals in the town.

Antonia Guerrero was a woman who left an inheritance to set up a foundation to help provide further education to women from Estepona from families of little means.

This mural shows two figures: on one side there is a woman who incarnates Antonia Guerrero in her youth, dreaming about studying and feel fulfilled in this area, and on the other side there is a goldfinch which symbolizes  her dreams of freedom.

The mural is eight metres high and was painted using wide range vivid colours, intending to reflect the vitality of Antonia Guerrero herself.
